Poo Goes Home to Pooland
"Poo Goes Home to Pooland" is an educational app designed to help children who suffer from encopresis, a condition characterized by involuntary soiling. Developed by the Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, this free iPhone app aims to distance children from the shame and blame associated with the problem.
The app utilizes an "externalizing" storytelling approach to engage children in behavioral treatment programs. It features a troublesome character, representing the problem of encopresis, placed externally to the child. The goal is to free children from their fears and activate their inner resources.
Designed for children up to the age of seven, "Poo Goes Home to Pooland" combines individually illustrated visuals with accompanying text to promote understanding of toileting matters and alleviate anxiety. The app covers topics such as expressing unhappy feelings and organizing bathroom routines.
Created by Dr. Tamsin Black, a clinical psychologist, during her doctoral training, "Poo Goes Home to Pooland" is a valuable resource for both children and their families. It can be used in conjunction with therapeutic interventions to help children regain control over their bowel movements.
